Completing it will take well over 60-70 hours that include missions with their own goals and specific environment where base building and map cleaning will be the main focuses. But the campaign also contains some third person exploration missions where you will slowly get pages of newspaper that will help you understand what happened to the world and what caused the infection.While the campaign contains a lot of hours, and diverse experiences, at some point the missions will feel very similar and less interesting, despite the addition of new enemies and technologies.It's important to know that there is NO recovery points in missions, losing mean starting all over again, which could be pretty frustrating, but once you've figured out how the game works I haven't found it that difficult overall.The game runs on a very powerful engine, allowing really thousands of units to live their lives on the map. The post-apocalyptic feel has really been nailed too, and the steampunk universe is very well represented. Some characters seem interesting but lack of a bio or some kind of history. For example, one of the units is a small british man (or perhaps a dwarf?) piloting a massive zombies killing machine. It just feel pretty random without any explanation on the character.So, They are billions is a very unique game, with its own feel and gameplay that will hook you up into a pretty long campaign, that will sadly lose interest mission after mission once passed the 50% because you will be repeating the same patterns over and over again. But don't get me wrong, the feel of having a big army crushing zombies, or seeing your defenses take down some hordes, or even having your economy thrive makes an overall enjoyable experience.

They Are Billions does a lot of things great. The survival twist of a city-builder is unique, and lots of fun. Dealing with the huge waves is always as fun as it is stressful, including the huge final waves. Things that hold the game back are difficulty playing a computer game on console controls, and various UI and graphics issues as well as slowdown. This being said, it's a solid and unique RTS title.

They Are Billions' crucible of experimentation and failure molds players into rugged survivalists. The RTS-style resource management and tower defense test the ability to aptly devote time to the bare necessities that will fend off countless hordes of undead. Harder to master console controls may add an extra layer of tension but living another day remains the sweetest of rewards.

If you can get past the almost hostile learning curve, and that's a BIG if, then They Are Billions offers a unique take on the RTS genre and one of the most thrilling, and scary, zombie experiences you can have in a game. There are concerns over the lack of a tutorial, the effectiveness of the map generator and the absolutely mad difficulty curve but if you survive, maybe you'll catch some of this Stockholm Syndrome too.

While the game itself is really quite good, the lack of gameplay options and lack of thought into porting over the control scheme make for an average experience overall. This is a port that feels very much like one done with the absolute minimal effort required, and that's just not good enough for 2019 when so many other games this year have done so much better in this same PC to console space.

If you want to test your steampunk mettle against an almost endless hoard of the undead, They Are Billions scratches that base building itch as well letting you live out your fantasies of fighting zombies. As long as you’re really, really, good at both, you’ll have no trouble with this one! Even if you’re not, this is one that is well worth the time and punishment.

Taken as a whole, it is an entirely new and interesting take on genres that are as old as gaming. Billions has such great moments at times that it’s rather surprising that these genres hadn’t been smashed together already. Billions leaves plenty to be desired everywhere else though—in visual fidelity, art direction, sound design, and even game balance. Clearly, this is a first step on a new and mysterious frontier. Hopefully, not the last.

They Are Billions offers an almost perfect gameplay loop, mixing tower-defence with city building and exploration, as you balance resource-management, defence and offense, all against your ever-impending doom at the hands of a world infested with the undead. The only downside to a game that looks and sounds great, offering a tense experience in a compelling setting, is a campaign that doesn't fully make-use of the gameplay loop perfected by Numantian Games, leaving the campaign feeling weak, compared to the survival mode, which is the real draw.

It’s true; players looking for strategy game that’s going to hold their hand likely will feel out of their depth here. But stick with it and take the time to learn the game’s intricacies, and there’s a lot of fun to be had with They Are Billions. It isn’t for everyone, but there’s not much else that compares to the rush of thousands upon thousands of zombies swarming your settlement all at once.

From the wonderful comic book feeling animation, and beautifully rendered worlds, to the ever looming feel of dread, They are Billions never lets you out of it's cold iron grasp. Once you've played (and likely died) a few times, you quickly realize that one mistake, or oversight could be your end. Game play itself is straight forward, You need people, and energy to run everything, while keeping everyone fed, and gathering the materials you need to build more, and researching better buildings, and keeping a stock of soldiers for your defensive lines. Just like any good RTS you can easily under-produce nearly anything, keeping you from making the next great structure, so be sure to try and keep everything just above "What you need" and you'll be a bit better off. The slim choices in units and proceduraly generated maps can make early game a bit harsh, especially for newer players. The feeling of dread produced the first time a real Horde attack trudges it's way from the Fog of War is real, they feel like Billions! But that doesn't even scratch the 'Final horde' that comes at the end of days, set by your difficulty. The game is HARD. There is no Tutorial. If you are NEW to RTS style games then this may not be the best choice for you to start on. If you are a fan of the genre, and you are looking for a great challenge, and a high paced system, then look no further! I Highly recommend this game be added to your RTS collection, because it can, and likely will, provide countless hours of intense strategy for those seeking a great challenge!

They Are Billions is a fun enough game for those looking for a nice hybrid of the survival and base-building strategy games even if neither aspect feels as fleshed out as it could. While the steampunk setting and addition of zombies adds a fresh layer of paint to things, it's not nearly enough to sustain the game for too long, especially when the controls are often so frustrating that some players will find themselves pausing or turning the game off entirely to take a break because of it. Regardless, there's still a really fun game underneath all of the flaws, and a level of suspense that almost makes it worth ignoring them.

Strategy and simulation games can and do work on console. Titles like Surviving Mars and Halo Wars 1 and 2 have proven that you can make separate gamepad controls without fully necessitating keyboard and mouse support. But for whatever reason, They Are Billions for Xbox simply doesn't measure up. At the very least, the game is very affordable at $25, and the core gameplay is ace, but you'll want a mouse and keyboard hooked up to your console to get the best experience.

They Are Billions is a game based on just a single trick that’s up its undead sleeve. But it’s a hell of a trick, one that’ll keep you ensnared in its tangled web of survival for dozens and dozens of hours as the undead march upon your best base-building efforts.

After starting the game, we soon felt disillusioned. The structure of the missions nevery changes and there isn‘t really a story to the campaign. The are Billions shines the most when playing outside the boundaries of the campaign, especially when playing on high difficulty.
