Résumé
Le colonel Ostankovitch, commandant d'un service de police spécial à Saint-Pétersbourg et homme qui a mis son honnêteté en jeu en jurant que, sous son commandement, aucun objet ne se perdrait à l'Ermitage, reçoit un rapport faisant état d'une brève défaillance de l'alarme à l'Ermitage. Il soupçonne qu'il s'est passé quelque chose. Pour éviter de perdre sa réputation, il contacte Maxim Durand par l'intermédiaire de Larisa Svetlova. En raison de son passé, Maxim est à sa disposition et doit l'aider.
L'histoire
Pour retrouver les tableaux volés, Max et Lara se rendent (la plupart du temps seuls) à l'Ermitage, dans une ancienne bibliothèque, au siège d'Interpol à Lyon, à la résidence en Écosse et dans d'autres lieux. Ils interrogent les suspects, recherchent des données, cassent des codes et découvrent des faux. Tous ces périples mènent finalement Max, accompagné de son frère, au cloître finlandais. Des morts étranges, des signes secrets et le comportement de plus en plus bizarre d'André, le frère de Max, et de son entourage poussent Max à la limite de la raison.

There is just no humour in the game at all, it is all so serious. And the subtitles have some bad mis-spellings (how did someone miss that). The major con is that it really doesn't pull you along enough to want to keep on playing. After an hour each time, you get quite bored, but come back to finish it (which at least is a better aspect). A solid p-and-c game and recommended to anyone who likes that genre. For everyone else, it might all be a bit slow and linear.
Captivating story, mysterious atmosphere, nice 3D graphics and a non-linear course with multiple endings shows the true power of adventures. Great game comparable with best pieces in its genre.
Memento Mori is a heavily story-driven point'n click game with beautiful graphics and great musical score. The plot twists and turns nicely during the game. Unfortunately the puzzle design isn't very original and most of the puzzles aren't very challenging, although moving the puzzle solving to 3D does make some of the problems seem new and refreshing. The voice acting is occasionally very annoying but you get used to it. Overall Memento Mori is a good purchase for an adventure gamer Both its story and the shocking finale linger on the edge of thoughts for a long time after playing through the game. This is the way to end a game.
It's not a title for the books, but it's a game crafted with care and should be tried out even if you're not a fan of the genre.
If you are looking for a brain-teasing experience full of complex puzzles to blow your mind, Memento Mori has little to offer along those lines. But if you are fan of story-driven adventures, you'll find a promising new adventure to fill your needs in this gripping psychological drama (albeit disguised as a conspiracy thriller) with one of the most shocking and memorable endings the genre has seen in a long time.
