Just Dance 2020 is quite a standard game for the series with a bright style and cute graphics, which has even fewer innovations than the next annual FIFA. The local tracklist looks very strange, because in Russia we have more popular artists than the Monatik. The story mode with Panda as a celebration of the series ' decade is clearly insufficient, as is the diverse but meager set of tracks. At the same time, if you already have a subscription to Just Dance Unlimited and any other version of the game, starting with Just Dance 2017, then there is no point in buying Just Dance 2020.

Ubisoft's tactic to get you to pay an expensive monthly fee to access all the songs that had already been part of their catalog is simply nasty. Even after you do start the trial, Ubisoft released an online-only game, and their now-famous server's poor performances will ruin the fun, crashing 4/5 before or during the songs. A nightmare. The bet on having kids ask their parents to pay that fee is pure evil. Sold it already.

Perhaps this is, at least for a newcomer, a bit like showing up halfway through a movie and complaining about it, out loud, to absolutely no one's interest. There's something genuinely fun about playing Just Dance 2020, and while there's nothing surprising, there really doesn't need to be. As a product, this works. However, it doesn't always feel like a game. It feels, at times, like interactive marketing, and while that may be fine for some, it's hard to believe no one out there is going to look at this and feel like it's anything more than a commercial you can play.

As a ten-year celebration for the franchise, Just Dance 2020 is mostly the same, for better or for worse. While it strips some of the innovative features of past entries, the eclectic and energetic songlist will get any party pumped up all night. I was expecting something a bit different for Just Dance 2020 on Xbox One, considering this is Ubisoft’s opportunity to really celebrate the 10 year milestone but, as usual, it is more of the same. What is in place though is decent enough and will cater for all those who have previously loved the franchise over the preceding years.

I’ve always enjoyed the presentation when it came to the Just Dance franchise and thankfully both the visuals and sound design are once again fun here. There are a decent variety of songs to dance to and I can’t see me or my friends and family getting bored of the game anytime soon because of this. Technically the game held up really well throughout my time with the game and I didn’t bump into any problems that held the game back in any way. The choreography and different dances present in the game have a ton of variety which made dancing to them both challenging and fun. There isn’t really anything new this time around and if you aren’t a fan of the Just Dance franchise this game won’t change your mind in any way. More modes would’ve been nice because after a while doing the same thing does make the game become a little repetetive. I don’t mind admitting that Just Dance is a guilty pleasure of mine and in my opinion it’s the best party game available to you because not only does it make you fit but it’s also an incredible amount of fun as well. As you can imagine then I was really looking forward to Just Dance 2020 and thankfully once again they’ve done a good job. In fact this time around they’ve ironed out a few little issues that dogged last year’s game and I’m pleased to say that the mobile aspect of the game works better this year. Once again there’s a decent amount of songs for you to get to grips with this year and the creativity that’s present in the choreography means dancing to the different songs is not only fun but challenging as well. Despite this it still would’ve been nice to see a few different modes included this year because it is very similar to last year’s game and if you’re not a fan of the franchise unfortunately this game won’t change your mind. Adding 9 extreme versions was a good choice, a loveable fan-service for hardcore players. Kids Mode is very different than it used to be in the previous games like 2018 or 2019. It seems to be more humanized instead of fantastic. They added very good popular music like "High Hopes" by Panic! at the Disco or "Talk" by Khalid, but also some unpopular songs that end up to be fun and good, like "My New Swag" by VAVA ft. Ty & Nina Wang or "Sushi" by Merk & Kremont. All-Stars mode could be longer, but even as short as it is, its meaning is very strong for a big Just Dance fan. About the tracking, some platforms, like the Nintendo Switch, got it worse than some of the last games, but, since this review is about Xbox One, I may tell that they did a pretty good job.It's not the best Just Dance game. Some games such as 2014 are still better than it, but it's still one of the best JD games ever done.
