Les graphismes sont très stylisés (un type de pixel art très populaire à l'époque) et la musique mélange des rythmes modernes et des sons anciens de manière exceptionnelle.
Le système de jeu est basé sur un temps et des ressources limités. Chaque journée s'écoule assez rapidement et le joueur ne peut jouer qu'à quelques activités. L'entraînement des combattants est essentiel, tout comme la victoire dans l'arène et l'obtention de prix et de ressources qui nous permettront de mieux équiper nos gladiateurs et d'obtenir les faveurs des autorités.
Les combats sont toujours risqués car aucun résultat n'est parfaitement garanti et perdre les meilleurs combattants est une tragédie dont on ne se remet que très difficilement, surtout lorsqu'on est vaincu dans des combats entre équipes de gladiateurs. Avec le temps, leur ludus gagne en célébrité (en cas de succès) et on peut se mesurer à des défis de plus en plus complexes, y compris la participation à des tournois dans différentes régions d'Italie, de difficulté croissante, contre des adversaires.
Enfin, il y a les touches de classe comme les gladiateurs qui s'enivrent dans l'arène (si vous insistez pour les récompenser avec du vin pendant l'entraînement), les armes lancées par le public pour aider un combattant, les membres coupés et la possibilité de poster sur facebook et twitter des replays de duels.
Mais Domina impressionne aussi par un autre aspect que celui du simple gameplay ou des valeurs de production. Domina est en effet un titre conçu pour être joué en streaming et offre plusieurs moments d'interaction significatifs avec les spectateurs. Tout d'abord, une fois le mode Twitch activé, le jeu collecte les noms des spectateurs du stream et les utilise pour les différents gladiateurs que le streamer gère au cours de la partie ; aussi bien le premier lot de combattants que tous les nouveaux arrivants seront identifiables en tant que spectateurs du stream.
Cela permet déjà à Domina d'acquérir un nouveau niveau d'interaction avec le public et, par conséquent, de divertissement. Les spectateurs suivent l'histoire de leur personnage, ont besoin d'un entraînement, de nouveaux équipements et invoquent leur utilisation dans l'arène. Comme cela s'est déjà produit de manière non structurée dans des jeux tels que X-Com (le streamer créait les personnages à l'image et à la demande des spectateurs), cela se produit de manière structurée et automatique dans Domina.
Mais ce n'est pas tout. More than once, a new Easter egg made me smile, or an arrow with a note of uncultural content attached to it SUDDENLY stucks right in front of me :)The fights in the game are extremely fast, but it’s interesting to watch and cheer for their champions every time. Domina is so indolent that some might describe as a bad game. I don’t necessarily disagree. You might as well watch Spartacus on Starz. The graphics are probably better. The thrills of occasional action are probably more elaborate. But when it comes to RPing a lazy Roman noble who can barely be arsed to lift his arm high enough to give the wrist enough play for a dismissive flick, there’s nothing better than lolling around in the shade with Domina.
Domina frustrated me beyond belief, but in the best way. I thought I had planned a match out to perfection, got slaughtered, but loved every minute of it. I only wish there was more to the game, as restarting again at square one became a little tedious after a while. Despite that, I will still revisit it time and again for a quick fix of blood and profanity.
